Se parece que o futuro da Intelig\u00eancia Artificial (IA) \u00e9 um cen\u00e1rio em r\u00e1pida mudan\u00e7a, \u00e9 porque as inova\u00e7\u00f5es atuais no campo da intelig\u00eancia artificial est\u00e3o acelerando em um ritmo t\u00e3o r\u00e1pido que \u00e9 dif\u00edcil acompanhar. Parece prov\u00e1vel que a IA v\u00e1 (continuar a) mudar o mundo.\u201d Mesmo nos 12 meses desde que o jornalista de tecnologia Michael Thomas escreveu estas palavras, o ritmo da mudan\u00e7a ficou ainda mais r\u00e1pido, com os governos come\u00e7ando a levar o risco da IA a s\u00e9rio e os chatbots se tornando virais. E, claro, onde h\u00e1 desenvolvimentos significativos, h\u00e1 Aiglonianos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNos anos 2000, o livro Interface Culture de Stephen B Johnson destacou que os artes\u00e3os daquela d\u00e9cada seriam engenheiros de software e designers de produtos\u201d, diz Narain Jashanmal (Alpina, 1997), agora vice-presidente de produtos do servi\u00e7o de streaming MUBI. \u201cAcho que ele estava certo. O que voc\u00ea pode fazer com c\u00f3digo ou design de produto \u00e9 t\u00e3o criativo quanto o que voc\u00ea pode fazer com uma c\u00e2mera, caneta ou pincel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Narain deve saber: ele est\u00e1 na vanguarda das m\u00eddias sociais desde que entrou para o Facebook, agora Meta, em 2014, progredindo para se tornar Diretor de Com\u00e9rcio Social na Reality Labs, onde foi pioneiro em novas experi\u00eancias de compras em realidade virtual e aumentada (AR\/VR). A IA, ele ressalta, n\u00e3o \u00e9 nenhuma novidade: suas teorias est\u00e3o conosco desde a d\u00e9cada de 1950. Mas a ascens\u00e3o da internet e das m\u00eddias sociais significou que, de repente, os conjuntos de dados eram t\u00e3o grandes que os humanos n\u00e3o conseguiam mais process\u00e1-los.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Novas ferramentas eram necess\u00e1rias, e a IA entrou em a\u00e7\u00e3o. Mas at\u00e9 o ano passado, a IA e o aprendizado de m\u00e1quina tendiam a ficar nos bastidores \u2013 direcionando pesquisas, recomenda\u00e7\u00f5es ou o que aparece no topo do seu feed do Instagram. Mas agora produtos de IA generativa, como o ChatGPT da OpenAI, est\u00e3o permitindo que os consumidores interajam diretamente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Como essa habilidade rec\u00e9m-descoberta afetar\u00e1 nosso mundo no futuro? Narain ressalta que a IA \u00e9 boa em ajudar com coisas em que os humanos n\u00e3o s\u00e3o bons. \u201c\u00c9 incrivelmente dif\u00edcil para um humano criar 100 cen\u00e1rios diferentes baseados em dados\u201d, ele diz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cE \u00e9 muito f\u00e1cil para uma m\u00e1quina fazer isso. Mas enquanto essa m\u00e1quina pode interpretar esses dados, ela n\u00e3o pode interpretar o resultado desses dados. Isso depende de n\u00f3s \u2013 assim como escolhemos distribuir as recompensas dessas novas tecnologias.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dariane Hunt (Exeter, 1986) \u00e9 Diretora de Experi\u00eancia do Usu\u00e1rio para IA Digital no banco Wells Fargo, e ela tamb\u00e9m est\u00e1 animada com o potencial da IA para criar melhores experi\u00eancias. Ela n\u00e3o se interessava por computadores na faculdade, ela diz, porque n\u00e3o achava que a linguagem que precisava aprender para se comunicar com eles fosse intuitiva. \u201cA maior coisa que me entusiasma com a IA \u00e9 que agora podemos falar com computadores usando nossa pr\u00f3pria linguagem. No Wells Fargo, temos uma grande base de clientes e estamos sempre tentando criar designs que sejam otimizados para o maior n\u00famero de pessoas. Mas as pessoas t\u00eam maneiras diferentes de processar informa\u00e7\u00f5es. A IA nos permitir\u00e1 criar experi\u00eancias personalizadas \u2013 UI l\u00edquida \u2013 que se adaptar\u00e3o e se ajustar\u00e3o a cada indiv\u00edduo de acordo com suas necessidades, em vez de termos que nos adaptar \u00e0 tecnologia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dariane come\u00e7ou sua carreira como designer digital, aprendendo no trabalho na d\u00e9cada de 1990, quando a banda larga e a TV interativa seriam as pr\u00f3ximas grandes novidades. Depois de um desvio para trabalhar em um santu\u00e1rio de reabilita\u00e7\u00e3o para orangotangos resgatados em Born\u00e9u \u2013 \u201cEu sempre quis trabalhar com grandes primatas, e era algo que eu simplesmente tinha que fazer antes de me estabelecer!\u201d ela diz \u2013 ela mergulhou fundo na tecnologia com um mestrado em Telecomunica\u00e7\u00f5es Interativas na Universidade de Nova York. Ela se viu no que era ent\u00e3o um campo completamente novo: experi\u00eancia do usu\u00e1rio e arquitetura da informa\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ela encontrou a IA pela primeira vez no Bank of America, quando foi solicitada a desenvolver uma habilidade Alexa para o banco. Desde ent\u00e3o, ela ajudou mais de 37 milh\u00f5es de clientes em mais de 1,5 bilh\u00e3o de intera\u00e7\u00f5es, permitindo que os clientes obtivessem insights sobre seus h\u00e1bitos de consumo. Hunt agora est\u00e1 trabalhando em uma ferramenta semelhante no Wells Fargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Como engenheiro de software s\u00eanior no Vision Products Group da Apple, Noah Gamboa (La Baita, 2014) est\u00e1 bem posicionado para saber. Seu amor pela tecnologia come\u00e7ou em sua aula de ci\u00eancia da computa\u00e7\u00e3o na Aiglon e cresceu na Universidade de Stanford, onde obteve um bacharelado em ci\u00eancias e um mestrado em engenharia el\u00e9trica. Em Stanford, ele se interessou por IA, trabalhando com pesquisadores de c\u00e2ncer de pulm\u00e3o com o objetivo de construir modelos de IA que podem analisar a tomografia computadorizada de um paciente e prever seu progn\u00f3stico de sobreviv\u00eancia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ap\u00f3s a formatura, ele estagiou na Apple, trabalhando na Siri, e mais tarde se juntou \u00e0 empresa em sua fun\u00e7\u00e3o atual. \u201cEstou muito animado com a computa\u00e7\u00e3o espacial, porque voc\u00ea consegue ver o mundo como ele poderia ser, n\u00e3o como ele \u00e9\u201d, ele diz. \u201cAtualmente, estou usando o Apple Vision Pro e ele \u00e9 simplesmente perfeito, permitindo que eu use a computa\u00e7\u00e3o espacial de uma forma totalmente nova.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noah acredita que a melhor maneira de pensar em construir uma carreira neste espa\u00e7o \u00e9 simplesmente come\u00e7ar a mexer. \u201cSe voc\u00ea v\u00ea algo que acha interessante e acha que pode fazer outra coisa, tente fazer outra coisa. Ou se voc\u00ea tem um quebra-cabe\u00e7a que n\u00e3o tem certeza de como resolver, mas gosta de entrar e consert\u00e1-lo, isso \u00e9 um bom sinal de que uma nova tecnologia \u2014 seja IA, RA, RV ou algo mais de ponta \u2014 \u00e9 algo para voc\u00ea. Nunca h\u00e1 um dia em que o problema seja o mesmo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dariane diz que sempre precisaremos de pessoas que pensem criativa e estrategicamente e que possam sintetizar todas essas informa\u00e7\u00f5es em algo coeso. A IA generativa, ela ressalta, n\u00e3o pensa. \u201c\u00c9 uma tecnologia preditiva; um algoritmo inteligente que pode avaliar a resposta mais prov\u00e1vel para uma pergunta. Mas n\u00e3o \u00e9 realmente compreensivo. Voc\u00ea sempre precisar\u00e1 de humanos que possam pensar criticamente e que possam sintetizar e resolver problemas de maneiras muito mais intuitivas do que qualquer tipo de algoritmo de m\u00e1quina.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

E Narain concorda que esse tipo de adaptabilidade e engenhosidade ser\u00e1 extremamente valioso \u00e0 medida que entramos em um futuro movido a IA. \u201c\u00c9 f\u00e1cil dizer que voc\u00ea se sente intimidado por uma tecnologia, especialmente porque a tecnologia que voc\u00ea est\u00e1 usando \u00e9 mais abstrata\u201d, ele diz. \u201cMas tentar entender n\u00e3o significa que voc\u00ea precisa se tornar um especialista em aprendizado de m\u00e1quina. \u00c9 sobre curiosidade, fazer perguntas, ouvir, chegar ao cerne de algo.
