Ces mati\u00e8res, fondamentales pour comprendre le monde qui nous entoure, ont souvent la r\u00e9putation d&#039;\u00eatre ennuyeuses et difficiles. Au Royaume-Uni, par exemple, des enqu\u00eates ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/education\/primaryeducation\/9146011\/Half-of-children-find-science-and-maths-too-difficult-or-too-boring.html\">la moiti\u00e9 des enfants trouvent les mati\u00e8res trop difficiles et trop ennuyeuses<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C\u2019est un mythe que les enseignants d\u2019Aiglon s\u2019efforcent de dissiper. \u00ab Notre objectif n\u2019est pas seulement de mettre en place les fondamentaux math\u00e9matiques \u00bb, explique Peter Bromfield, responsable des math\u00e9matiques \u00e0 Aiglon College. \u00ab Il s\u2019agit de se d\u00e9barrasser des id\u00e9es fausses que certains enfants ont, selon lesquelles ils ne sont pas bons en math\u00e9matiques ou en sciences, et de les aider \u00e0 se sentir confiants et heureux dans leurs cours. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apprentissage pratique<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour y parvenir, il faut commencer par rendre le sujet aussi pratique que possible, litt\u00e9ralement dans certains cas. \u00ab Nous avons un projet appel\u00e9 Giant&#039;s Hands, dans lequel nous donnons aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves une grande photocopie de ma main et leur demandons de cr\u00e9er un mod\u00e8le \u00e0 taille r\u00e9elle de la taille de cette personne \u00bb, explique M. Bromfield. Le projet peut \u00eatre amusant, mais il demande \u00e9galement aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves de s&#039;appuyer sur de nombreuses choses qu&#039;ils ont apprises. \u00ab Ils utilisent des concepts math\u00e9matiques comme les ratios et la proportionnalit\u00e9, et des comp\u00e9tences statistiques comme la collecte, l&#039;interpr\u00e9tation et la pr\u00e9sentation de donn\u00e9es. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les projets permettent \u00e9galement aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves d&#039;explorer le sujet de mani\u00e8re cr\u00e9ative et de se laisser guider par leurs propres int\u00e9r\u00eats. \u00ab Un projet r\u00e9cent consistait \u00e0 rep\u00e9rer des mod\u00e8les et des s\u00e9quences \u00bb, se souvient Rona Watson, directrice adjointe du d\u00e9partement de math\u00e9matiques \u00e0 l&#039;Aiglon College. \u00ab Un \u00e9l\u00e8ve est parti et a abord\u00e9 le probl\u00e8me en utilisant des instructions \u00ab si \u00bb dans une feuille de calcul. Ce n&#039;est pas quelque chose que nous avions appris, mais il est tellement int\u00e9ress\u00e9 par ce projet que le projet lui a permis de se d\u00e9passer. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette approche pratique et concr\u00e8te est \u00e9galement fondamentale pour une bonne \u00e9ducation scientifique, et constitue un \u00e9l\u00e9ment essentiel du parcours scientifique de chaque Aiglonien pour devenir de jeunes scientifiques engag\u00e9s et performants \u00e0 leurs examens. \u00ab Si vous deviez vous asseoir dans une salle de classe et m\u2019\u00e9couter enseigner la thermodynamique pendant six mois, vous vous ennuieriez probablement \u00bb, explique Andy Bowes Lyon, responsable scientifique \u00e0 Aiglon. \u00ab Au lieu de cela, l\u2019accent est mis sur l\u2019apprentissage exp\u00e9rientiel. \u00bb Cela signifie que presque chaque cours de sciences comporte un \u00e9l\u00e9ment pratique. \u00ab Notre cadre unique nous permet de faire de l\u2019astronomie \u00e0 haute altitude dans les Alpes, de r\u00e9aliser des travaux de biologie et d\u2019ESS entour\u00e9s de montagnes, d\u2019alpages et d\u2019une nature pr\u00e9serv\u00e9e, et d\u2019entreprendre des projets innovants comme notre projet satellite. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le projet CubeSat est une nouvelle initiative \u00e9tudiante financ\u00e9e gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la philanthropie de la communaut\u00e9 Aiglon qui permettra aux \u00e9tudiants d&#039;Aiglon de lancer leur propre satellite en orbite. C&#039;est un projet fascinant et unique qui illustre l&#039;approche exp\u00e9rientielle de l&#039;\u00e9cole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette approche exp\u00e9rientielle de l\u2019apprentissage a pour r\u00e9sultat que les \u00e9l\u00e8ves d\u00e9veloppent un amour intrins\u00e8que pour la mati\u00e8re, un amour qui transpara\u00eet vraiment dans les projets scientifiques personnels. \u00ab En plus des activit\u00e9s pratiques de routine, tous les \u00e9l\u00e8ves de terminale ont une semaine r\u00e9serv\u00e9e pour mener leurs propres travaux scientifiques individuels \u00bb, explique M. Bowes Lyon. \u00ab Parmi les nombreuses recherches que nous soutenons, on trouve celles qui vont de l\u2019effet du son sur la croissance des plantes \u00e0 l\u2019analyse des microplastiques pr\u00e9sents dans la neige, en passant par les caract\u00e9ristiques de portance de diff\u00e9rentes sections d\u2019ailes, et bien d\u2019autres encore. Ces projets ont n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 des plates-formes sur mesure, une technologie d\u2019analyse chimique de pointe, des souffleries et mille autres \u00e9quipements pour permettre aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves de poursuivre leurs passions. Certains projets apportent un changement r\u00e9el d\u00e8s le d\u00e9part \u2013 par exemple, un \u00e9tudiant bhoutanais d\u2019Aiglon a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la flexion des briques de boue composites. Les le\u00e7ons qui en d\u00e9coulent influenceront le choix des mat\u00e9riaux de construction dans les villages recul\u00e9s du Bhoutan. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, les projets des \u00e9tudiants ont atteint un tel niveau qu&#039;ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s \u00e0 des concours internationaux. \u00ab Chaque ann\u00e9e, les \u00e9tudiants participent \u00e0 des comp\u00e9titions STEM telles que les Olympiades des sciences. Nous avons connu des succ\u00e8s notables, certains d&#039;entre eux ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s pour repr\u00e9senter la Suisse \u00e0 la finale internationale \u00bb, d\u00e9clare M. Bowes Lyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Une communaut\u00e9 de soutien<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u00eame si certains projets peuvent para\u00eetre \u00ab extravagants \u00bb, l&#039;organisation d&#039;Aiglon permet aux \u00e9tudiants de b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier du soutien n\u00e9cessaire pour les mener \u00e0 bien. \u00ab Nous avons un bon ratio \u00e9l\u00e8ves-enseignants, donc lorsque quelqu&#039;un veut essayer quelque chose d&#039;extr\u00eamement ambitieux, nous pouvons vraiment le soutenir \u00bb, explique M. Bowes Lyon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les d\u00e9partements de math\u00e9matiques et de sciences ont \u00e9galement pu compter sur l\u2019aide du r\u00e9seau Aiglon pour accompagner les \u00e9tudiants et s\u2019assurer qu\u2019ils r\u00e9ussissent dans ces mati\u00e8res. \u00ab L\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, nous avons eu un \u00e9tudiant qui r\u00e9alisait un projet d\u2019intrication qui l\u2019obligeait \u00e0 construire un laser sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 \u00bb, se souvient M. Bowes Lyon. \u00ab Au d\u00e9but du projet, il a eu l\u2019occasion de parler avec le professeur Sir Tejinder Virdee, parent d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve d\u2019un ancien \u00e9l\u00e8ve et ancien membre du conseil d\u2019administration et figure de proue du CERN. Le professeur Virdee a ensuite mis l\u2019\u00e9tudiant en contact avec son r\u00e9seau, au sein duquel se trouvaient des universitaires qui ont pu le conseiller sur la fa\u00e7on de fabriquer le laser TEA dont il aurait besoin dans le cadre de son projet. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus pr\u00e8s de chez nous, le d\u00e9partement de math\u00e9matiques a facilit\u00e9 des liens similaires entre les \u00e9l\u00e8ves plus jeunes et les \u00e9l\u00e8ves plus \u00e2g\u00e9s. \u00ab Nous avons 10 \u00e9l\u00e8ves qui entrent en 13e ann\u00e9e et qui se sont inscrits pour fournir un mentorat en math\u00e9matiques aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves de 11e ann\u00e9e qui souhaitent suivre le cours de math\u00e9matiques suppl\u00e9mentaires IGCSE \u00bb, explique M. Bromfield. Ainsi, les \u00e9l\u00e8ves plus \u00e2g\u00e9s pourront d\u00e9velopper leurs comp\u00e9tences de mentorat, qui sont profond\u00e9ment ancr\u00e9es dans la culture d&#039;Aiglon, et les plus jeunes auront la chance de se d\u00e9passer. \u00ab Cela leur permettra de vraiment aller au-del\u00e0 du programme \u00bb, souligne M. Bromfield. \u00ab Les \u00e9tudiants pourraient se demander : \u00ab Quand aurons-nous besoin de cela dans la vraie vie, monsieur ? \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien entendu, les enseignants eux-m\u00eames voient et expliquent aux \u00e9tudiants la valeur de ces mati\u00e8res, m\u00eame \u00e0 ceux qui ne veulent pas continuer \u00e0 les \u00e9tudier apr\u00e8s avoir quitt\u00e9 Aiglon. \u00ab En physique, nous faisons beaucoup de mod\u00e9lisation. Et cette mod\u00e9lisation math\u00e9matique que nous utilisons s&#039;applique aux affaires, \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e9conomie, aux sciences sociales et \u00e0 bien d&#039;autres domaines \u00bb, explique M. Bowes Lyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais ces liens avec la communaut\u00e9 Aiglon au sens large ont aid\u00e9 les \u00e9tudiants \u00e0 mettre cela en pratique. \u00ab Nous avons organis\u00e9 des webinaires avec des anciens \u00e9l\u00e8ves d&#039;Aiglon qui sont devenus des entrepreneurs prosp\u00e8res gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leur formation en chimie, par exemple \u00bb, explique M. Bowes Lyon. \u00ab Les \u00e9tudiants ont cette sorte de moment \u00ab Eur\u00eaka ! \u00bb, o\u00f9 ils comprennent soudainement que \u00ab c&#039;est l\u00e0 que la science peut les mener \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&#039;environnement dans lequel les \u00e9l\u00e8ves apprennent contribue \u00e9galement \u00e0 cr\u00e9er ces moments d&#039;inspiration. Le d\u00e9partement de math\u00e9matiques, par exemple, a r\u00e9cemment fait l&#039;objet d&#039;une r\u00e9novation qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un espace beaucoup plus coll\u00e9gial qui encourage la participation. \u00ab Nous avons une salle avec un grand&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harkness_table\">Tableau de Harkness<\/a>&nbsp;\u00ab Il y a un espace en forme de donut, un autre en forme de beignet et des tableaux blancs partout \u00bb, explique le Dr Watson. \u00ab Cela a vraiment chang\u00e9 la fa\u00e7on dont les \u00e9tudiants participent. Quelqu&#039;un qui h\u00e9sitait \u00e0 \u00e9crire quelque chose par peur de se tromper n&#039;a plus ces m\u00eames r\u00e9serves maintenant, car il sait qu&#039;il peut l&#039;effacer imm\u00e9diatement et recommencer. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M. Bromfield a v\u00e9cu une exp\u00e9rience similaire dans ce nouvel environnement d\u2019enseignement. \u00ab L\u2019\u00e9poque o\u00f9 l\u2019enseignant se tenait devant la classe et \u00e9crivait des questions sur un tableau noir est r\u00e9volue \u00bb, dit-il. \u00ab Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019organisation actuelle, les \u00e9l\u00e8ves peuvent tous se voir et sont pr\u00eats \u00e0 communiquer. Cela leur donne le sentiment d\u2019avoir une voix et cr\u00e9e un environnement collaboratif. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Durant l&#039;\u00e9t\u00e9 2024, Aiglon r\u00e9novera un laboratoire de physique et deux laboratoires de biologie. L&#039;\u00e9cole compte au total huit laboratoires de sciences. La premi\u00e8re phase de d\u00e9veloppement a vu la r\u00e9novation totale des laboratoires de chimie en 2023. La deuxi\u00e8me phase consistera \u00e0 moderniser les laboratoires de physique et de biologie. D&#039;ici l&#039;automne 2024, nous disposerons de sept laboratoires d&#039;enseignement enti\u00e8rement modernis\u00e9s, avec la perspective de d\u00e9velopper encore cette offre au cours des prochaines ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Le travail acharn\u00e9 porte ses fruits<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette approche pratique et exp\u00e9rientielle de l&#039;enseignement des math\u00e9matiques et des sciences est \u00e0 mille lieues de l&#039;apprentissage par c\u0153ur que beaucoup d&#039;entre nous associent \u00e0 ces mati\u00e8res. Mais elle s&#039;inscrit parfaitement dans la philosophie p\u00e9dagogique plus large d&#039;Aiglon et porte ses fruits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prenons l\u2019exemple des math\u00e9matiques de niveau sup\u00e9rieur. Si, historiquement, de nombreux \u00e9tudiants consid\u00e9raient cette mati\u00e8re comme \u00ab trop difficile \u00bb, ils sont aujourd\u2019hui de plus en plus nombreux \u00e0 choisir de l\u2019\u00e9tudier. \u00ab Nous constatons qu\u2019un nombre croissant d\u2019\u00e9tudiants \u00e9tudient les math\u00e9matiques de niveau sup\u00e9rieur \u00bb, rapporte M. Bromfield. \u00ab L\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, nous avions une classe, cette ann\u00e9e, nous en avons deux, et l\u2019ann\u00e9e prochaine, nous esp\u00e9rons avoir trois classes d\u2019\u00e9tudiants qui l\u2019\u00e9tudieront. \u00bb Cette tendance se retrouve \u00e9galement dans le d\u00e9partement des sciences, qui a bien pr\u00e9par\u00e9 les \u00e9tudiants aux cours de STEM dans certaines des universit\u00e9s les plus r\u00e9put\u00e9es au monde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il est difficile de briser ce pr\u00e9jug\u00e9, mais le message que les enseignants envoient aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves est clair : si vous \u00eates pr\u00eat \u00e0 fournir des efforts, vous obtiendrez le soutien dont vous avez besoin pour r\u00e9ussir. \u00ab Nous rappelons aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves que toute mati\u00e8re de niveau sup\u00e9rieur est difficile \u00bb, explique M.
